Course Overview
Situated at the apex of business partnering, effective communication with / to top management requires most of the time going a little bit above and beyond what a finance specialist, either from financial accounting or from performance management (FP&A) is required to do as daily routine.
In this course we talk about personality traits at work place and their influence in how the information is being broadcasted but also received. In a close relation with personality traits are the career choices (functional specialities) of the colleagues you interact with at work place. Make no mistake, cross functional teams have their advantages, if one knows how to use them, hence we also talk about business partnering. And if all these are not complex enough we also need to take into consideration the hierarchical position of the person receiving our message. It is mainly due to time constraints that you need to be assertive and concise.
And it all starts with understanding ourselves, the finance and accounting specialists. Behaviours we have gotten so used to that we, sometimes, do not even realize are not seen with very good eyes by other colleagues. There is an explanation behind but it is not enough to improve the situation.
The dashboard lands as proposal to solve some of the problems and to improve business partnering. What if you can put a lot of useful information in one simple page? You might have already heard about the “Executive summary” concept. It goes in the same direction.
What type of information (format point of view) can you put in and in what mix?
We get a lot of help from MS Excel (Charts) and from MS Word (the dashboard itself). We could also use some simple image editor (I used MS Paint native to Windows but feel free to use anything else of your liking and choosing).
In this course you will find examples of how not to do it and how to do it. And they are all real life examples, some of them drawn from my own past experiences. And you get, at the end, the challenge to do something similar for your very own company.
